Huawei's ascend 950 superpod earns major tech award for enabling trillion-parameter AI models
The Huawei Ascend 950 SuperPoD secured the Leading Technology Award at the 2026 World Internet Conference in Wuzhen on November 3. This recognition, which gathered applications from 43 countries and regions, highlights the system's significant industry standing in global internet technology.
The SuperPoD's key strength is its proprietary Lingqu interconnect protocol, which allows thousands of computing chips to function as a unified supercomputer. Its fully configured setup supports up to 1,024 NPUs, over 1,300 interconnect chips, and more than 4,000 optical modules, making it suitable for training and inferencing ultra-large AI models ranging from trillion to ten-trillion parameters.
Performance metrics show the system achieves 45% compute utilization, surpassing the industry average by about 1.8 times, while reducing minimum inference latency to just 5 ms. Currently, over 40 large models have undergone native pre-training on this hardware. Huawei officials stated the company plans to iterate toward a 'SuperPoD plus super cluster' architecture to build a robust, independent computing foundation for China's AI sector, noting that over 1,000 sets have already been deployed nationwide across sectors like finance and telecom.
