Hyundai motor group commits 9 trillion krw to develop AI valley in saemangeum, establishing two new spcs
Hyundai Motor Group has advanced the development of the Saemangeum AI Valley by officially opening a new office on October 30th, marking a key step in the construction of the massive AI data center. This project involves an investment of approximately 9 trillion Korean Won (roughly 44.84 billion RMB at current exchange rates) in Gunsan City, South Korea.
To support the initiative, the group previously established a Special Purpose Company (SPC) in September to manage the first phase of a 200 MW renewable solar photovoltaic power project, ensuring the data center receives green energy. Furthermore, Hyundai Motor Group plans to jointly establish two new SPCs in November with its core subsidiaries: Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai E&C, and Hyundai AutoEver.
These new entities will handle distinct functions: one will focus on procuring and securing high-performance GPU computing resources for cloud and operational services, while the other will manage infrastructure development. Construction is slated to begin in March 2027, with services expected to launch in early 2030, ultimately supporting AI research across autonomous driving, robotics, and vehicle engineering.
