Industrial Next, a San Francisco-based startup, is developing AI-driven robotic stations that can reconfigure production lines in minutes rather than weeks. The company, which presented at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, uses proprietary foundation models to connect vision, task context, and motion, enabling rapid retooling without traditional programming. Industrial Next is partnering with BMW Group Technology Office to evaluate its AI-powered dexterous manipulation for manufacturing. Founded in 2021 by Lukas Pankau and Allen Pan, both former Tesla employees, the startup emerged from their frustration with outdated factory equipment. Pankau noted that traditional robots are limited to highly specific tasks, causing downtime when changes are needed. Industrial Next’s robots, trained in high-fidelity simulations, can perform complex tasks like assembling smartphones and peeling film from camera modules with 100% accuracy. The company aims to extend its technology beyond smartphones to full car manufacturing, eliminating the need for human intervention. Pankau emphasized that the goal is to bridge the gap between advanced design capabilities and outdated industrial automation, enabling manufacturers to achieve greater flexibility and precision.
