Insurance claims adjusters are the most vocal critics of AI in the U.S. workforce, according to a Glassdoor report. Nearly 98% of adjusters who mention AI in reviews express strong dissatisfaction, citing error-prone systems and increased workload. Ahmad Jackson described how AI misclassification led to errors, prompting him to leave his job. Geoffrey Conrad echoed concerns about AI fatigue and replacement fears.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a 21% drop in adjuster employment between May 2025 and May 2026, with entry-level positions falling 50% since 2025. Companies like Lemonade and startups such as Liberate and Pace are driving AI adoption, automating tasks like claim processing. Lemonade’s AI Jim handles 96% of initial reports, yet adjusters remain skeptical, citing hallucinations and misinformation. Sandy Avina highlighted how AI errors often lead to incorrect payouts, with customers blaming adjusters.
Conrad emphasized the human element in claims processing, recalling his experience with a house fire. He argued that while AI can assist, it should not replace the empathy and determination of a skilled adjuster. The industry faces a reckoning as AI reshapes the landscape, with adjusters warning against overreliance.
