Jev sparks controversy in decision AI models amid rapid industry growth

On October 13, 2026, IT Home reported that TypeSafe's Jev model has ignited a surge in the decision AI market, prompting major players like Microsoft, OpenAI, Cloudflare, and Perplexity to enter the space. Jev, which processes decisions by returning probability results rather than generating text, is claimed to be 193 times faster and 445 times cheaper than standard LLMs. However, its rapid rise has sparked controversy over originality. Nandakishor Mukkunnoth, founder of ConvAI Innovations, claimed his 2025 SalesRLAgent paper introduced a probability-based model years before Jev. In response, TypeSafe launched Jev as a fully hosted product, while Mukkunnoth released an open-source alternative called Laya, which supports Jev-style models and runs on user hardware. Laya, built on BERT-based encoder-only models, offers multilingual support and can be deployed on custom hardware. The debate over originality highlights the fast-paced evolution of decision AI, with multiple companies releasing competing models in a short span of time.
