Job seekers express concern over AI screening, feeling their applications lack human touch
A recent survey conducted by the recruitment platform Greenhouse among over 1,100 job applicants in the UK and Ireland revealed that Generation Z candidates possess a deeper awareness of AI screening processes compared to those aged 60 and older. The data indicated that 81% of respondents were rejected after submitting only a resume without any human interaction, and 97% wished to convey aspects of themselves that could not fit onto a CV, suggesting a need for changes in modern hiring methods.
Concerns are particularly high regarding AI screening systems. Over the past 12 months, 42% of candidates participated in AI interviews, with 57% feeling these interviews offered a chance to showcase their skills. Despite AI's utility in resume refinement, employers are finding that standardized, AI-polished resumes are failing to differentiate applicants.
Sharawn Tipton, Chief People Officer at Greenhouse, stated that this situation represents a shared problem for both employers and job seekers. Tipton noted that applicants often feel their submissions vanish into a void, while employers struggle to sift through nearly identical, AI-enhanced resumes. She warned that relying on AI layered upon AI will ultimately harm everyone, calling for a truly equitable mechanism for candidates.
