On September 2, 2026, Moonshot announced that its Kimi API now supports OpenAI's Responses API format, with a base URL of https://api.moonshot.cn/v1, and Anthropic's Messages API format, with a base URL of https://api.moonshot.cn/anthropic. This update allows users of Codex and Claude Code to connect directly to Kimi models such as kimi-k3, kimi-k2.7-code-highspeed, kimi-k2.7-code, and kimi-k2.6 without needing to convert formats or use local proxies. IT Home reported that users can access these models through a custom model provider. OpenAI's Responses API supports text and image inputs but not video, requiring users to extract keyframes with ffmpeg for video analysis. Codex's desktop client, now updated as ChatGPT, may display the model selector as 'custom' but uses Kimi K3 or other specified models.
