Letterpress-1: new coding agent from the letter company focuses on growth engineering for websites
The Letter Company has launched the beta version of Letterpress-1, a coding agent designed to automate growth engineering tasks for websites. This agent analyzes a site and its market to determine necessary changes, building them in a sandbox environment before submitting a pull request with a live preview. The company posits that websites are uniquely susceptible to external influences, such as competitor actions and search engine rankings, which general coding agents are not designed to address.
The agent is intended for teams managing marketing sites within git repositories and offers proactive suggestions for development, including landing pages and blog automation. It operates through a loop where the agent reads, plans, builds, reviews, and then presents a preview link for every proposed change. The platform supports multiple interfaces, including a Slack app, a CLI, and an in-site IDE.
For developers, the system integrates with an MCP server at app.letterstory.com/api/mcp, which registers 760 tools accessible by various MCP-capable agents. Pricing is structured around a shared token pool, with plans ranging from Basic ($100 for 10,000 tokens) to Scale ($2,500 for 400,000 tokens). The cost model estimates 150 to 900 tokens per pull request, equating to $1.50 to $9 at the list rate.
