Listen labs abandons $1.5B valuation deal amid Salesforce acquisition talks
Listen Labs, a voice AI-driven market research startup, walked away from a $125 million Series C funding round at a $1.5 billion valuation, according to multiple sources. The deal, led by Menlo Ventures, never closed, marking a rare move in venture capital. The collapse is believed to be linked to ongoing acquisition discussions with Salesforce, which have reportedly explored a $2 billion purchase. While the talks remain non-binding, they may influence Listen Labs’ future valuation. The startup, co-founded in 2023 by Florian Jüngermann and Alfred Wahlforss, competes with firms like Simile, which recently secured a $200 million Series B at a $2 billion valuation. If the Salesforce deal falls through, VCs expect Listen Labs to re-enter the market with a target valuation of $2 billion or higher.
The CRM giant could bolster its AI capabilities with Listen Labs’ technology, which automates customer interviews and generates insights for Fortune 500 companies. However, a 67 times revenue multiple may deter Salesforce, according to an exit negotiation expert. Listen Labs’ clients include Microsoft, Canva, and Anthropic, with its AI platform offering faster, cheaper market research compared to traditional methods. Competitors like Simile, Outset, and Keplar are also disrupting the space with AI-driven solutions.
