Maven Robotics, a startup specializing in industrial automation, has emerged from stealth mode after securing $100 million in funding from RoboStrategy, LocalGlobe, Vine Ventures, and XTX Markets Ventures. The company, founded by Hamza Derbas, a former Apple employee, aims to build 250 third-generation robots and begin work on a fourth-generation platform. Derbas, who previously worked on self-driving car projects at Apple, emphasized Maven’s focus on real-world industrial operations rather than research-driven approaches. The robots, which operate on wheeled bases and can lift up to 30 kilograms, are designed for mixed palletizing tasks in distribution centers. Derbas noted that the company’s approach is task-specific, targeting multi-billion-dollar markets one problem at a time. "We’re grounded in solving one customer problem at a time," he said. Maven’s strategy involves collecting more data to train robots for advanced automation and fabrication, while avoiding the complexities of humanoid designs seen in competitors like Agility. The startup aims to address industrial labor challenges at scale, rather than competing in the race for AI models.
