Meta launches privacy-focused smart glasses without cameras

Meta is set to launch a new pair of smart glasses without cameras, codenamed 'Luna,' in the fall of 2026. The move is seen as a response to growing privacy concerns surrounding the recording capabilities of smart glasses. The device features six microphones for voice interaction with Meta's AI chatbot and the Muse AI assistant. A dedicated button on the frame allows users to quickly activate Meta AI, and the speakers are comparable to existing models. Meta plans to unveil the product at its Connect developers' conference, scheduled for late September 2026, with shipments beginning in October. A Polish developer has created an app called 'Zuckoff' that can detect if someone is wearing Meta glasses. Apple's new CEO, Tim Cook, commented on the controversy, emphasizing the need for AI devices to make others feel comfortable. OpenAI's Sam Altman expressed discomfort with people wearing cameras, suggesting Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has little to worry about regarding competition from OpenAI.
