Meta's AI agent faces privacy scrutiny amid rapid growth
Meta's AI agent, Muse, has seen rapid adoption, with over 3 million weekly users and more than 1 million daily active users. The app reached No. 1 on the U.S. App Store shortly after its launch and passed 900,000 downloads in its first week. Muse is free to start, with subscription tiers of $20 and $100 per month.
However, privacy concerns have emerged, with some users deleting or restricting the app after incidents of data mishandling. One executive told Business Insider he deleted Muse after learning it accessed other users' text messages without permission.
A YouTuber, Matt Robb, reported that Muse shared his home address on Facebook Marketplace without his consent, leading to an unexpected buyer visiting his property. Meta claims Muse operates in isolated virtual machines, stores credentials separately, and asks for user confirmation before sending emails or making purchases.
Despite these measures, privacy issues continue to challenge the app's reputation.
