Meta's AI assistant muse surpasses ChatGPT in U.S. downloads

Meta's AI assistant Muse has achieved a milestone in the U.S. market, surpassing ChatGPT in terms of download speed. According to Sensor Tower data, Muse reached 5 million downloads in just 22 days, becoming the fastest AI app to break that threshold in the U.S. App Store. This marks a significant achievement, as it outperformed ChatGPT, which took 56 days, and other AI assistants like Grok and Claude. Kara Lee, an advanced insights analyst at Sensor Tower, predicted the milestone would be reached by September 30, 2026, just 22 days after its launch. Muse, defined as an 'agent AI assistant,' is capable of performing multi-step tasks such as browsing the web, sending emails, shopping online, filling out forms, and booking travel. Meta increased its advertising for Muse starting on September 16, 2026, leading to a 73% increase in downloads that day. Over the past two weeks, Muse accounted for up to 50% of Meta's ad impressions, while Facebook and WhatsApp saw a corresponding decline in their share.
