Microsoft abandons copilot+ pc branding for new surface devices

Microsoft has discontinued the use of the 'Copilot+ PC' branding for its new Surface devices, despite these systems meeting the criteria for AI-accelerated local workloads. The Copilot+ PC initiative, launched in 2024, aimed to simplify the identification of Windows systems capable of running AI tasks locally. However, the latest Surface computers announced this week do not carry the Copilot+ PC label. Brett Ostrum, corporate VP of Surface, told Windows Central that the new devices are not referred to as Copilot+ PCs, even though they fulfill the requirements for the label. This shift marks a change in Microsoft's strategy for promoting AI capabilities in its hardware. The decision reflects a broader reorientation in how the company is positioning its AI-driven products.
