Microsoft is reportedly planning to expand access to its Copilot AI service by allowing primary subscribers of the Microsoft 365 Family and Premium plans to share AI features with up to five family members. This change would enable subscribers to manage AI access permissions for minor family members, a capability not currently available. The official Microsoft support page still states that Copilot features are exclusive to the primary subscriber, with no official release date or specific sharing limits announced. The move aligns with Microsoft's restructuring of family plan benefits, which includes a shared 2TB OneDrive storage space for the entire family starting October 7, 2026. Existing users will transition to this model when renewing subscriptions starting April 1, 2027. Microsoft also plans to consolidate Copilot usage limits across applications into a unified pool, allowing Premium and Pro subscribers to purchase additional AI usage when their quota runs low. Neowin reports that this adjustment could accelerate the adoption of generative AI in consumer family scenarios. Previously, AI capabilities in Copilot were not shared with traditional Office applications and storage benefits, but the new policy aims to change that.
