Microsoft redefines office AI strategy with integrated copilot application
Microsoft has unveiled a new Copilot application that integrates full Word, Excel, and PowerPoint experiences, marking a shift in its AI strategy for office productivity. The updated tool allows users to create, edit, and collaborate on documents without switching to standalone Office applications. Features include direct file handling, real-time collaboration, and a 'Library' section for recently used files and AI-generated content. All Office files remain stored in OneDrive, preserving formatting, comments, and version history. Users can now choose specific AI models or let Copilot auto-select them for tasks. The new Copilot application supports complex tasks through Copilot Cowork, enabling users to generate documents from notes and make edits using standard Office controls.
The update reflects Microsoft's effort to streamline AI integration within its productivity suite, offering a more seamless experience for users. The application supports real-time collaboration, allowing multiple users to edit and comment on files simultaneously. This development positions Microsoft to enhance its competitive edge in the AI-driven office software market.
