Microsoft redesigned copilot icon to reflect dynamic interaction
Microsoft has redesigned the Copilot icon, transforming it from a static symbol into a dynamic system composed of two squares. The update, announced on October 5, reflects the evolving use of Copilot, as the design team sought to better convey its processing states through interactive visuals.
The new icon features two independent squares that can shift positions to form a complete shape, with the design team testing various proportions, angles, and spacing before settling on two distinct forms. The color scheme retains its original gradient, with hues shifting along a curve between the two shapes.
Microsoft also tested different color combinations across screens, print, and physical materials. The dynamic interaction includes three movements, with the third representing 'search' as Copilot retrieves information from files and work content.
The design team emphasized a unified dynamic language across all actions, ensuring consistency in the visual representation of Copilot's functions.
