Microsoft's azure CTO demonstrates ai's power with rapid cross-platform tool migration
Microsoft's Azure Chief Technology Officer, Mark Russinovich, showcased the capabilities of AI by successfully migrating a 20-year-old Windows tool called ZoomIt to macOS in just two days. The tool, which offers screen scaling, real-time annotation, and recording features, was completed with about 90% of its functionality.
Russinovich used AI to handle the platform-specific differences, including macOS interface standards, system permissions, and key handling. He noted that AI helped him learn the platform mechanisms that he would have otherwise spent time studying.
The macOS version also includes a new feature called DemoType, useful for inputting preset text during presentations. ZoomIt for Mac is now freely available and open-source, requiring macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Users can install it via Homebrew or from Microsoft's GitHub page.
