Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has revised his stance on AI alignment, acknowledging that greater AI power does not necessarily equate to safer behavior. In a recent episode of the 20VC podcast, Nadella admitted that he no longer believes AI systems will naturally align with human values as their capabilities grow. He previously thought that increased AI power would automatically resolve alignment issues, but now views the problem as more complex and distinct. Nadella, who warned about AI risks on October 10, urged companies to treat AI models as internal security threats and implement robust safeguards. He emphasized the need for industry standards and reliable systems to manage unpredictable AI behavior. Other tech leaders, including OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, have also raised concerns about AI’s potential risks. In July, over 1,000 AI professionals signed a letter warning that AI’s development could outpace human control.
