Mihoyo's AI companion service shuts down after one month, offline version released
miHoYo has announced that its desktop companion software, 'BSide: Olivia Lin,' will cease operations on August 31, 2026, less than a month after its early access launch on July 13. The company also released an offline version of the software, which users must download by 15:00 Beijing Time on August 31. This offline version retains certain features, including listening to the character Lin Li's performance and using the desktop dynamic wallpaper function. miHoYo stated that Lin Li will maintain some companionship capabilities in the offline version, allowing users to continue experiencing related content.
The company emphasized that user-generated data, such as letters, MIDI files, and music libraries, must be backed up before the server shutdown on August 31. After the service ends, miHoYo will handle data in accordance with legal and privacy policies. Online content will not be recoverable or synchronized with the offline version. The shutdown marks the end of a short-lived service that received user interaction, including listening to vinyl records, writing letters, and uploading melodies.
