Moonshot unveils K2.8 preview, competing with flagship k3 model

Moonshot has fully launched its K2.8 Preview model, which now supports 1M context length and is available to all membership tiers. According to official information, the model has reached performance levels close to its flagship K3, with notable improvements in coding and agent capabilities. The K2.8 Preview was launched on September 12, 2026, and the million-context feature was fully extended to all members. The company has maintained a rapid development pace in 2026, with major releases including Kimi K2.5 on January 28, Kimi K2.6 on April 21, and a preheating video for K3 leaked on July 16. Kimi K3, with a 2.5 trillion parameter scale, was planned for release in Q3. The K2.8 Preview follows the launch of Kimi K2.7Code on June 16 and the end of service for K2.5 on August 24.
