AI Founders Pledge to Donate Fortunes From IPOs to Charity
David Silver, a former Google DeepMind researcher who founded startup Ineffable Intelligence with 1.1 billion dollars in capital (5.1 billion valuation), has pledged to donate all earnings from future company sales to charity. He joins a growing trend among AI founders making similar commitments, including Mustafa Suleyman (Microsoft's AI CEO) and Anton Osika (founder of coding platform Lovable). Founders Pledge, an organization that formalizes these commitments contractually, has recorded pledges worth 4 billion dollars as of 2026, up from 400 million in 2023 — the AI industry now represents one-third of the organization's lifetime pledge total. Experts question whether philanthropy is the most appropriate way to redistribute wealth generated by capitalist practices.
