AI-supervised remote exam fails and forces 58,000 students to retake it
In early summer, about 160,000 candidates took UNAM's entrance exam, Mexico's largest university, completely remotely for the first time. The process used a lockdown browser and AI-powered webcam proctoring software over several weeks between late May and early June. The results revealed serious anomalies compared to previous years. Historically, between 2021 and 2025, only 3.5% of candidates achieved a score of 100 or higher on the 120-question exam, but this year that figure reached 16.3%. The discrepancy was so significant that the university ordered 58,000 students to retake the exam.
