Alibaba Launches Qwen3.8-Max, Rivaling OpenAI and Anthropic

Chinese technology company Alibaba has announced the release of Qwen3.8-Max, its largest and most capable AI model to date. The system is now available to users through an announcement on the company's blog. According to Alibaba, Qwen3.8-Max delivers performance on par with leading U.S. AI research labs including Anthropic and OpenAI, as well as domestic competitors like Moonshot AI's Kimi K3. The launch was anticipated after the company previewed the model last month, when it claimed the system ranked second only to Anthropic's Fable 5. The introduction of another highly sophisticated AI model from China escalates competitive tensions across multiple fronts between Silicon Valley's tech industry and Washington.
