Anthropic launched a focused call for applications within its AI for Science program for rare genetic disease research projects. Approved applicants will receive up to 50,000 dollars in Claude credits over six months, with the goal of building a community of researchers exploring how AI can reshape understanding of rare diseases. The program has two tracks: one for scientists doing basic research and another for early-stage biotechs accelerating clinical development. Rare disease research faces unique challenges: knowledge of fundamental science is limited, and more than 7,000 rare diseases affect an estimated 400 million people globally. AI makes it possible to accurately model rare diseases and identify mechanisms shared across different genetic conditions.
