Chinese film awards establish first category for AI-generated content

The Popular Hundred Flowers Film Awards created its first-ever category dedicated to AI-generated content in its 64-year history. The initiative attracted over 2,000 submissions within a month, with 30 works reaching the final selection phase. Of these, 24 received recognition and 6 won special awards. Recognized works span categories including best animated production, excellence in visual effects, and best creative execution. This move aligns with an international trend among film festivals recognizing AI-created content: in June, Shanghai International Film Festival launched its 'AI Film Set' unit, while Beijing International Film Festival also established an AIGC category. According to award judges, dedicated AI categories are expected to become a standard element at future film festivals.
