Flock implements safeguards against surveillance data abuse
Flock, a police surveillance technology company, has announced changes to its policies in response to growing concerns about misuse of its nationwide license plate reader network. The company now requires officers to enter a criminal case number before conducting a search, raising a previous optional requirement to mandatory. Additionally, Flock has expanded an automatic auditing system that analyzes officer search activity and flags administrators about suspicious searches. These changes come after investigations revealed dozens of cases where officers used the technology to stalk and harass romantic partners.
