Gartner predicts AI inference spending will surpass training in 2026

According to Gartner analysis, global spending on AI-optimized cloud infrastructure (AI-optimized IaaS) will reach $42 billion in 2026, a 96% increase from 2025. The analysis projects that AI inference spending will reach $23.3 billion, surpassing for the first time the $19 billion in training spending. This milestone indicates that organizations are evolving from experimental phase to real production applications. Global cloud infrastructure (IaaS) is expected to grow from $222 billion in 2025 to $287 billion in 2026, and reach $360 billion in 2027.
