Google speeds up Chrome security fixes with AI assistance
Google announced the patching of 1,072 security vulnerabilities in the last two Chrome versions (149 and 150), both released in June. This figure significantly exceeds the 1,036 bugs fixed across 23 previous versions over the past two years.
The achievement was enabled by deploying internal AI tools, including models such as Gemini, which automated and expedited the vulnerability detection and remediation process. Chrome's engineering director Doug Turner stated that large language models have fundamentally transformed cybersecurity, enabling industrial-scale operations in flaw discovery and prevention.
The trend extends beyond Google. Microsoft reported a record 570 security patches in its monthly update cycle, attributing the surge to AI implementation. Apple, however, has not experienced the same exponential growth, maintaining a consistent correction pace comparable to previous years.
