Hugging Face and Ai2 deepen partnership to strengthen open AI
The Allen Institute for AI and the Hugging Face platform announced a strengthened partnership to expand access to fully open artificial intelligence models. Under the agreement, Hugging Face will increase storage available for Ai2's models by three times and remove standard rate-limiting restrictions, enabling faster downloads of their models and datasets.
Ai2's models have been downloaded over 50 million times since 2024, establishing the organization as the most active provider on the Hugging Face platform. The infrastructure expansion benefits Ai2's efforts to publish fully open artificial intelligence that goes beyond just open-weight models, including training data, checkpoints, and evaluations.
According to Peter Clark, interim CEO of Ai2, and Clem Delangue, CEO and co-founder of Hugging Face, the initiative aims to reverse the industry's trend toward closure, returning to an earlier state where AI knowledge was widely shared and collaborative among researchers.
