KKR Takes Control of South Korea's Largest Renewable Energy Platform Valued at $1.3 Billion
Private equity firm KKR will assume management control of a new renewable energy platform in South Korea valued at 2 trillion won ($1.3 billion), formed through a joint venture with SK Group to meet surging clean power demand from AI data centers and semiconductor manufacturing. The platform integrates wind, solar and fuel cell assets previously held across SK Group's subsidiaries and will begin operations with 1.7 gigawatts of capacity, with plans to scale to 10 gigawatts—sufficient to power approximately 100 large-scale data centers simultaneously. The initiative responds directly to South Korea's broader investment push in AI infrastructure, following the government and SK Group's announcement of trillion-won spending plans for semiconductor expansion and AI data center development.
