Linus Torvalds, head of the Linux kernel project, observed that the project has faced record-sized updates. In the week of August 2, he commented that the seventh release candidate for Linux 7.2 presented an exceptional size for an RC6, possibly the largest in years by commit count. Torvalds attributes the explosion of changes to review performed by AI tools, which have contributed many fixes, though he previously complained about the flood of duplicate AI-generated bug reports and the questionable quality of code produced by machines. Despite concerns about the volume, Torvalds stated that nothing appears particularly dangerous and that most changes are small fixes distributed across drivers, filesystems, and networking code. He expects Linux 7.2 to be released at the end of the weekend, bringing significant features such as improved scheduling for GPUs and CPUs.
