Listen Labs secures $69M Series B round on strength of AI-powered research platform
Listen Labs, which uses artificial intelligence to automate customer research interviews, raised $69 million in Series B funding led by Ribbit Capital. The round valued the company at $500 million and brings total capital raised to $100 million since inception.
The startup gained significant attention through an unconventional recruitment campaign featuring a San Francisco billboard displaying encoded AI tokens. The programming puzzle hidden within the code attracted thousands of attempts, with 430 people successfully solving it and generating millions of social media impressions as competition for engineering talent intensified in the Bay Area.
The platform addresses fundamental limitations in traditional market research. Standard surveys provide statistical precision but miss nuance and elicit dishonest responses, while one-on-one interviews deliver depth but fail to scale efficiently. Listen Labs bridges this gap by deploying AI moderators to conduct video interviews across a global network of 30 million participants, delivering insights in hours rather than weeks.
Enterprise customers have reported substantial benefits. Microsoft gathered customer stories for its 50th anniversary in a single day instead of six to eight weeks. Chubbies increased youth focus group participation from 5 to 120 respondents by eliminating the scheduling friction of traditional research. An education company reduced fraudulent survey responses from 20% to near-zero by implementing Listen's identity verification system.
The company plans to expand its workforce from 40 to 150 employees this year while entering a $140 billion market fragmented among legacy competitors. Future roadmap items include synthetic customer simulation and automated actions triggered by research findings, with ethical safeguards to ensure human oversight.
