MediaTek outlined its strategy for developing dedicated AI accelerator chips. The company's first AI ASIC accelerator is scheduled to reach mass production in the second quarter of 2026, representing its entry into the specialized accelerator market. Development on a second-generation accelerator is progressing on schedule, with initial production anticipated to begin in 2028 and scale to full capacity during the same year. To maintain supply chain flexibility, MediaTek is qualifying both Intel's EMIB-T technology and TSMC's CoWoS as advanced packaging options for its chip designs. Supporting infrastructure continues to advance in parallel. The company is making headway on 448G SerDes technology and optical interconnect solutions through collaboration with TSMC, including work on high-performance 3.5D chiplet stacking architectures. The company's board approved a $5 billion discretionary fund to underpin its broader AI strategy. The capital allocation prioritizes supply chain capacity while enabling MediaTek's planned evolution from standalone AI accelerators into integrated systems and end-to-end platforms.
