New South Wales' deputy premier has requested the Education Standards Authority urgently review artificial intelligence's impact on student cognitive development. The move comes as evidence suggests AI is affecting how students learn. Half of HSC results are based on school assessments, some completed outside classrooms. Officials worry that if students use AI to bypass the learning process, it could undermine both education quality and HSC integrity. Any interim policy changes would apply from term 4.
