OpenAI launches Computer History feature for ChatGPT on Mac
OpenAI announced the rollout of a new feature called Computer History in the ChatGPT desktop application for Mac, replacing the previous Chronicle functionality. Unlike Chronicle, which relied on screenshots, Computer History records interaction events through macOS accessibility features, including clicks, text input, keyboard shortcuts, and application switches. These events are converted into memory and timeline information that ChatGPT and Codex can access. Regarding privacy, Computer History automatically excludes private browsing activity, with interaction events stored locally for up to 48 hours before being deleted following server-side memory generation. The feature is initially available to ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers, with initial unavailability in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
