OpenAI removes message limits for free ChatGPT users
OpenAI announced the removal of message limits in text conversations for free and Go account users, effective from August 10, 2026. Starting this date, users can maintain continuous dialogs without volume restrictions, despite other features such as image creation, document incorporation, and audio mode retaining their own restrictions. In parallel, the company altered the default model for free accounts, replacing GPT-5.5 Instant with GPT-5.6 Luna, a smaller-scale algorithm. The platform implements a new 'Think' button that enables the model to dedicate extra computational time to elaborate more complex responses, without restrictions in text interactions. Regarding users on paid Plus and Pro plans, OpenAI refined the main model GPT-5.6 Sol, improving fluency in responses and minimizing superfluous formatting. These users also receive 'thinking intensity' control, allowing them to customize the volume of computational resources applied to each response. OpenAI justifies these changes by stating that the fundamental purpose is to expand penetration of AI tools and eliminate barriers for new users.
