A strategic opportunity for the European Union involves establishing a collaborative network of allied nations focused on advancing frontier artificial intelligence research and development. Eight countries are identified as potential partners: the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and India. The coalition would address a critical gap: frontier AI research remains chronically underfunded despite its strategic importance. By pooling resources and expertise, the participating nations could develop trustworthy, secure, and reliable AI systems while ensuring adequate funding for this vital research area.
