Salesforce Overhauls Slackbot Into a Corporate AI Agent in Bid to Rival Microsoft and Google
Salesforce has completely rebuilt Slackbot, the workplace assistant integrated into Slack, transforming it from a simple notification system into an advanced artificial intelligence agent. The new Slackbot, now available to Business+ and Enterprise+ customers, can access enterprise data, generate documents, and take autonomous actions on behalf of employees. This release represents Salesforce's most aggressive push into the emerging market of corporate AI agents designed to work alongside humans on complex tasks.
The tool was reconstructed around Anthropic's Claude language model, selected partly for its compliance with U.S. federal regulatory requirements, particularly FedRAMP Moderate certification. Salesforce plans to add support for additional models including Google Gemini later this year. The reimagined Slackbot draws information from multiple enterprise sources — Google Drive files, Salesforce records, calendars, and Slack conversation history — enabling sophisticated analysis and workflow automation.
Internal testing across Salesforce's 80,000 employees produced striking results: 96% satisfaction ratings (the highest for any AI feature Slack has shipped), with two-thirds of staff trying the tool and 80% of those continuing regular usage. Employees reported time savings ranging from two to twenty hours weekly. Early customers including Beast Industries and Engine highlighted significant operational efficiency gains.
Slackbot will be included at no additional cost in the mentioned subscription tiers and directly competes with Microsoft's Copilot integration in Microsoft 365 and Google's Gemini integration in Workspace. Salesforce contends its key advantage lies in deep Slack integration, eliminating the need to switch between multiple applications for task completion.
