Snap schedules September event to showcase Specs AR glasses
Snap announced an event scheduled for September 16 in Los Angeles to fully present its Specs augmented reality glasses. Company CEO Evan Spiegel will deliver the first detailed introduction of the device's features and use cases.
The Specs have been available for pre-order since June at a price of 2,195 dollars. The glasses weigh between 132 and 136 grams and employ LCoS display technology with a 51-degree field of view and 16-million-color display capability. A distinctive feature is the electrochromic lens system that transitions from clear to dark mode in ten seconds.
The device operates independently, powered by two Qualcomm Snapdragon processors—one dedicated to computer vision tasks and the other to running the Snap AR interface. Built-in artificial intelligence capabilities monitor in real time what users are viewing, understand their current goals, and deliver contextual assistance. Battery life reaches approximately four hours under mixed usage, extendable to roughly twenty hours with the included charging case.
