Snapchat moves to demote fully AI-generated videos from its Spotlight feature
Snapchat has adjusted its recommendation algorithm to reduce the prominence of videos created entirely by artificial intelligence on its Spotlight platform. The change reflects the company's commitment to supporting authentic human-created content over machine-generated material.
The update allows creators to leverage AI tools for content enhancement and editing, but only videos produced by real people will qualify for Spotlight promotion. This initiative builds on earlier efforts from April, when Snapchat first signaled its intention to minimize AI-generated content visibility.
The platform joins a growing number of companies taking action against low-quality AI-generated material. LinkedIn introduced a reporting feature for suspected AI content, while Substack created detection tools. YouTube has also tightened its policies, preventing generic or AI persona-driven content from earning revenue, particularly for sensitive subjects such as health and financial topics.
