SpaceX Increases Investment in Tesla Megapack Battery Systems for AI Data Centers

SpaceX has expanded its purchases of Tesla Megapack battery storage systems, spending $295 million in the second quarter and $329 million year-to-date, according to quarterly earnings reports. The systems are primarily deployed at xAI data centers owned by CEO Elon Musk, who also controls both companies. Prior to its merger with SpaceX earlier this year, xAI had purchased $430 million worth of Megapacks for its infrastructure. Battery storage systems provide backup power for AI data centers and help manage power demand fluctuations during model training and inference operations, reducing operational costs while ensuring consistent performance.
