Spotify Launches 'AI Persona' Labels and Removes AI Artists from Recommendations

Spotify announced it will label AI-generated artists with "AI Persona" profile tags beginning mid-September and exclude their music from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. The company will identify AI-generated artists both through self-disclosure and by reviewing profiles where artist names and imagery appear to represent photorealistic AI-generated identities, starting with high-audience-threshold profiles. Users can still choose to follow AI Personas to receive their music in personalized recommendations. The move builds on Spotify's September 2025 policy identifying and labeling AI music using industry-standard techniques and banning unauthorized AI voice clones and deepfakes, balancing innovation in AI-generated content with efforts to prevent low-quality AI-generated material from proliferating.
