Study finds AI-generated stories rated as higher quality than human-written ones

Researchers at Villanova University conducted a study with 1,682 participants, comparing three ChatGPT-generated stories with three human-written stories on similar themes. Readers who received AI-generated stories rated them as more engaging and higher quality, though those told stories were human-authored gave higher ratings. The study suggests AI systems can already generate stories as good as or better than human-written ones, possibly because they have simpler, more digestible style. However, researchers caution that this does not mean human creative writing is obsolete.
