Sriram Krishnan, an AI advisor departing the White House, stated that the Trump administration will not establish a formal licensing regime for artificial intelligence development. The position reflects the president's commitment to opposing what officials view as "burdensome bureaucratic regulation".
Krishnan argued that establishing a centralized agency with strict legal requirements would hinder American innovation. Instead, the administration plans to rely on an ad hoc approach where decisions about model releases depend on circumstance and political discretion, effectively determining winners and losers based on government preferences at any given moment.
The statement raises concerns about the opaque and arbitrary nature of this regulatory strategy. Critics contend that an unstructured process introduces greater potential for political interference than a clearly defined regulatory framework.
