Employment tribunals in the United Kingdom are experiencing a dramatic surge in interim relief applications, driven by growing adoption of AI tools like ChatGPT and Grok by employees who now draft their own legal petitions instead of hiring lawyers. According to a memorandum issued by the tribunal chairs, the British employment court recorded a 39% increase in cases received in March and a 55% increase in accumulated pending cases. Many of the AI-generated documents contain hundreds of pages, references to non-existent legal statutes, and unrealistic claims. The situation is expected to worsen with the newly passed Employment Rights Act from the UK Labour government, which adds 25 new grounds for complaints and removes compensation caps in certain cases, potentially encouraging even more AI-assisted litigation.
