Nvidia and Poolside forge strategic partnership to advance open-source AI

NVIDIA has announced a significant investment in Poolside, a move aimed at strengthening its position in the open-source artificial intelligence landscape. The company is allocating over $6 billion to develop one of the most powerful open-source AI models globally. As part of this initiative, NVIDIA will acquire a technology license from Poolside and assign more than 100 employees to the Nemotron project. Additionally, NVIDIA plans to invest an extra $1 billion in Poolside, which currently has a pre-investment valuation of $12 billion. The collaboration is intended to challenge leading Chinese open-source AI firms such as DeepSeek and Kimi, while also competing directly with U.S. advanced research labs like OpenAI and Anthropic. Open-source models are viewed as a critical direction for future AI development, and NVIDIA’s strategic move underscores its commitment to this field. The partnership highlights the growing importance of open-source initiatives in the global AI race.
