NVIDIA's CEO, Huang Renxin, has urged European leaders to accelerate AI development and avoid excessive regulatory caution during his recent visit to the region. During meetings with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other European leaders, Huang emphasized the need for a balanced approach to AI regulation, stressing that safety is essential but over-regulation could hinder progress. He warned that without significant growth in the AI industry, there would be little to regulate, and called for Europe to foster its own AI ecosystem while ensuring security. Merz acknowledged the challenge of balancing innovation with oversight, stating that neither complete deregulation nor excessive rules are viable solutions. Huang also highlighted AI's potential to boost Germany's economy by leveraging its manufacturing and engineering strengths. In a separate meeting with UK officials, he criticized the nation's tendency to overthink and avoid action despite its potential for success.
