OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging, a smartphone camera technology company, in a deal valued at over $300 million, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Founded in 2019 and based in Los Altos, California, Glass Imaging had previously raised about $30 million in funding. The company, co-founded by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, specializes in using AI to enhance smartphone camera performance by learning about different camera systems to improve image quality in real-time. OpenAI did not comment on the acquisition. Meanwhile, the company is rumored to be developing its own hardware, including smartphones and AI companion devices. In 2025, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Apple designer Jony Ive collaborated on a device startup called io, which OpenAI later acquired for $6.5 billion. The deadline to book an exhibit table at Disrupt’s Expo Hall is September 18.
