OpenAI has entered a multi-year strategic partnership with Australian AI infrastructure company Firmus, marking a significant expansion of its global computing footprint. Under the agreement, OpenAI will purchase dedicated AI computing power from two of Firmus' AI factories in Malaysia, solidifying its position as an anchor customer. The collaboration has already pushed Firmus' total signed computing capacity past 900 megawatts. Firmus operates seven AI factories across Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, with two already operational and five under construction, set to launch within 24 months. The new Malaysian facility will leverage NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 systems, NVIDIA DSX AI Factory platforms, and Firmus' HyperCube liquid-cooling infrastructure. OpenAI highlighted the data center's role in supporting its growing demands in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
